Principal's Corner
Kathy Gallop
Dear Parents,

I would like to personally welcome each of you and your children to Hutchens Elementary. I am excited about the 2019-20 school year. This year holds great opportunities for our students. This starts our fourth year as a Leader in Me school and we are striving to continue growing each and every child every day.  We are proud to be considered a Leader in Me Lighthouse School.  We will continue with learning and living the 7 habits and implementing activities that will engage and empower our learners.  Our students will be participating in clubs and in student leadership roles that will enhance their school experience and their love for learning.

I am also excited about our growing implementation of technology. The students at Hutchens have many opportunities to use technology on a daily basis. They will be utilizing programs such as  Renaissance Learning’s Accelerated Reader, I-Ready, and other online websites. They will also be immersed into computerized assessments. The I-Ready Diagnostic will be given three times per year.  We will keep you informed every step of the way.  We will also be focusing on DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Learning Skills) and working to have every student at the benchmark level.

Parental involvement is a very important component to the success of each student and to Hutchens Elementary. I want to encourage each of you to get involved in our school and with your child’s school experience. Each day the children will come home with a binder, I encourage you to be diligent with checking this binder, helping your child with homework, and helping your child stay organized. This is also a great way to stay in constant contact with your child’s teacher. Keeping up with these simple things will make all the difference in the world for your child.

Let’s work together to make this year the best it can be. If you have any questions or needs, please feel free to give me a call or send me an email.   I will be glad to help you at any time. Be sure to visit our website at www.mcpss.com under the schools tab.

Sincerely,
Kathy Gallop
